NSS activities at FMCON
NSS Special Camp Report
NSS unit of Father Muller College Of Nursing had organized a week long NSS special camp at Baikampady, Mangalore from 23/04/2015 to 30/04/2015. The camp was inaugurated by Rev. Fr Patrick Rodrigues, Director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions and the programme was graced by the presence of Rev. Sr Winnifred D’Souza, Principal, Father Muller College of Nursing and Mr Shajan Xaviour, NSS Programme officer
Fifty NSS volunteers were trained under the guidance of Mr Shajan, Ms.Lidwin Marina and Mrs Viola D’Souza, the faculty of Father Muller College of Nursing. The volunteers were divided into six groups. The camp was organized with programmes and activities from morning till late evening. The volunteers started their day with exercise and Yoga. Followed by that, they conducted door to door health surveys and referral services. They conducted mass health education on malaria eradication. They had an opportunity to visit the biological park at Pilikula,Vamanjoor. They promoted public information through a role play on prevention of diseases, shramadan and nutritional preparation. Volunteers attended the interactive cum informative sessions by experts around the city. The sessions included leadership training skill development by Mr Gilbert Nelson Martis, Senior Nurse Practice Educator in United Kingdom; Blood donation, organ donation and its legal aspects by Dr Leena KC, Professor, Father Muller College of Nursing; Interactive communication skill development by Rev.Fr Richard D’Souza, Director, Canara Communications, Mangalore; Environmental Safety and Laws by Mrs Jyothi Pinto, HR Manager, Father Muller Charitable Institutions and Moral Values in Life by Rev Sr. Winnifred D’Souza. After the daylong activities the volunteers participated in individual skill development programmes.
The camp culminated successfully with valedictory programme at 2.30 pm on 30/04/2015. Mr Shajan Xaviour, NSS Programme Officer presented the report of whole week long activities. Rev. Sr Winnifred D’Souza, Principal addressed the gathering and appreciated the effort taken by NSS team and congratulated all the volunteers and officer on their success.
Social Justice and Adolescents
The NSS unit of Father Muller College of Nursing organized a talk on Social justice by Ms Saritha Stella DSouza, Lecturer, Roshini Nilaya, School of Social Work, on 7th March 2011 at Silver Jubilee Hall of FMCI at 4.30pm, for the NSS volunteers of the college.
The session began with a prayer song by the NSS volunteers. Ms Carol Sofia welcomed the gathering and also introduced the speaker. Ms Saritha DSouza spoke about the ‘Social Justice and Adolescents’ with the help of an a power point.
The session was informative and effective. The NSS volunteers gained a wide knowledge on the topic. At the end of the session volunteers raised their questions and cleared their doubts. Ms Alby Mathew gave the vote of thanks and the guest was honored with presentation of a memento and the certificate by the NSS Advisor Mrs. Irene T R Alvares. Mrs Jasmine Sarita Vas and Mr Anish Thomas were present and guided the students
World Health Day 2011
Arise!!! No Action today; no cure tomorrow
A health education t programme was organized by the NSS unit of Father Muller College Of Nursing (FMCON ) volunteers on the occasion of World Health Day 2011, based on the theme “Antimicrobial resistance: no action today, no cure tomorrow”.
The programme began at 9.30am at the OPD premises of Father Muller Medical College Hospital (FMMCH). The significance of the day was shared by Dr Sanjeev Rai, CMS of the FMMCH, he shared his experience being the practitioner with the audience.
Followed by the ‘puppet show’ on the theme was done by the volunteers, after the show there was a powerpoint presentation in which causes and prevention of antimicrobial resistance was discussed by Ms Beena.
Rev Fr Richard Coelho, Administrator of FMMCH, Rev Fr Denis D’sa , Administrator FMCON, CMS Dr Sanjeev Rai, Ren Sr Winnifred D’Souza, Principal, FMSON, NSS programme Officers Mrs Irene Alvares, Mrs Jasmine Sarita Vas and Mr Anish Thomas were present for the occasion and also guided the NSS volunteersfor the same.
Poster Competition
NSS unit of Father Muller College of nursing had organized inter batch ‘poster competition’ on the eve of ‘world tuberculosis day’, on 24th March 2011 at the Exam Hall of Father Muller Medical College. The rules of the competition were displayed on the notice board. The theme of the year was “Tuberculosis elimination, together we can”. 8 groups had taken part in the competition.
Rev Sr Jacintha D’Souza, Principal, FMCON and Dr B Rekha, HOD Microbiology Dept and NSS officer of Medical College, were the judges of the competition.
NSS Training Program at Dharwad
Mrs Irene Alvares attended Training & Orientation course for NSS Programe Officers organized by NSS Empannelled Training Institute for Karnataka (ETI), University of Agricultaral Sciences, Dharwad from 10-01-2012 to 15-01-2012 sponsored by Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, New Delhi.
