Fr.Muller's
Charitable Institutions was established to provide caring, healing
and comfort to the sick and disabled without distinction of caste,
creed and community'. Through the years Fr. Muller's has furthered
this cause, by serving those most in need. At the Hospital, free
and subsidized care is extended to the deserving poor. No patient
is refused treatment for want of money. In order to provide such
care the Management tries to get support from various individuals
and organizations for the poor and needy patients. Fr. Muller's
extends this care even to the staff, employees and students. A major
step towards serving those most in need was the establishment of
Fr. Muller's Counseling Unit. This unit offers counseling for all
those seeking help for personal growth and family adjustment. It
conducts regular programmes for the people around Mangalore as counseling
has proved to be a powerful tool for personal development, stress
management, peers support and as training in emotional competence.
Father Muller's recognizes this tool and uses it to establish a
more healthy society.
Fr.
Muller's has set up various funds, to further the cause of community
service. The Poor Patient's Funds aid and accelerate the charitable
works of Fr. Muller's Charitable Institutions. These funds include:
Leprosy Relief Fund
Leprosy
services which were started in 1890 by our revered founder Fr. Augustus
Muller, are being continued with the same dedication and love. The
St. Joseph's Leprosy Hospital renders curative, preventive and rehabilitative
services. The Institution spends lakhs every year towards free care
for the treatment of leprosy patients, both in-patients and out-patients.
To support the work of leprosy, the management has started a 'Leprosy
Relief Endowment Fund'.
Vailankani Poor Patients' Fund
Alcoholic
de-addiction programme was started in the year 1992. A new ward
was put up for the alcoholic de-addiction patients in the year 1995.
To assist these patients, the management started a 'Vailankanni
Poor Patients' Fund' in the year 1994. A proposal has now come to
put up an additional block of 20 beds for women alcoholics.
Psychiatry Poor Patients' Fund
The
psychiatry services at Father Muller's were started in 1966 with
a hospital of 100 beds, most of whom are poor and abandoned patients
hailing from in and around Mangalore. The entire Psychiatry Ward
has been reconstructed so that better service, care and facilities
can be made available to such patients. Hence, the 'Psychiatry Poor
Patients' Fund' was established in the year 1996.
General Hospital Poor Patients' Fund
The
bed strength in Fr. Muller's General Hospital is 900 out of which
a good many opt to be admitted in the general ward. The Institution
gives free treatment which runs into lakhs, without counting the
subsidized care for the services rendered by the Priests and religious
personnel. Since the demand for free care is on the increase, a
need was felt to create a 'Poor Patients' Fund', which started functioning
from the year 1996.
It has always been our endeavor to serve humanity, with dedication
and selflessness. We appeal to the generous public to assist us
with contributions to various funds established by the Management
to assist the poor patients. Human life is reciprocal, in helping
one another. Let us therefore jointly extend our help to the less
fortunate and in need.
