Christmas is the story of a child born in a cowshed, placed in a manger the makeshift crib. The three kings who came from afar had the ability to see what the innkeeper missed : the potential of the infant asleep in a wooden manger. The Christmas story invites us to treasure the deep love of God for us. “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”(Jn 3 : 16).
In order to recapture the true essence and real reason for the season, we need to recall the joys of Christmas past, when Christmas was Christmas because of the celebration of life, family and community, not Christmas trees, shopping sprees and feasts. There should be a quiet little corner kept in everybody’s heart. A quiet little corner meant for all those special things, like friendship, warmth, peace, hope and cheer.
“Jesus is born” sang the angels above. Shepherds were awed by the sight. The star that announced God’s supreme gift of love outshone all the others that night. Two thousand years later, His love is the same and His light is still showing the way. Especially today he teaches us to accept one another, to come out of the bondage of caste, religion and communal divide. Christmas is the time to accept in brotherhood all and respect everyone.
I take this opportunity to wish all the Executives of our Institution, the faculty, staff and students, the wellwishers and our friends the joy and peace of Christmas. Also let the New Year 2010 be a grace filled and prosperous year to all of us. Merry Christmas ! Happy New Year.
