TRANSCME-2013 REPORT
‘TRANSCME 2013’ a CME on Blood Banking / Transfusion Medicine was organised by the Department of Pathology, on 15.06.2013 on behalf on ‘World Blood Donor Day’.
This was the first of its kind in Mangalore which was organised in association with Indian Society of Transfusion Medicine. The CME was inaugurated at 10 a.m. by Dr Sitalakshmi, Professor and Head, Clinical Pathology and Rev Fr Patrick Rodrigues, Director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions presided over the function. The other dignitaries on the dias were Rev Fr Denis D’Sa, Administrator FMMC, Rev Fr Richard Coelho, Administrator FMMCH, Dr J.P. Alva, Dean, FMMC, Dr Sanjeev Rai, Chief of Medical Services, FMMCH, Dr Hilda Fernandes, Organizing Chairperson and Dr Kirana Pailoor, Organizing Secretary.
The various topics covered in the CME were Rational use of blood, Apheresis techniques, Overview of NABH accreditation, Transfusion Reactions, Hemovigilance and a panel discussion with various clinicians involved in it covering day-to-day practice in transfusion medicine. The resource persons and chairpersons were from various parts of the country such as Mumbai, Bangalore, Mysore, Manipal and Mangalore. Around 300 delegates from various parts of Karnataka who belonged to different disciplines of Medicine, such as Pathology, Transfusion Medicine, Medicine, Surgery, OBG, Anesthesia, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, paramedical staff and students and Nursing staff and students participated in the CME. All of whom found it to be very useful according to their feedback.
The CME programme ended at 6 p.m.
