The Medical Education Unit Father Muller Medical College was started as per MCI guidelines to sensitize teachers to better methods of teaching and assessment.
In addition the MEU, FMMC aims to update undergraduate and postgraduate students of medicine and allied health sciences research methodologies, and soft skills such as communication.
The Medical Education Unit September 2009 – 2010 was appointed by the management of Father Muller Medical College and consisted of the following members.

The MEU with the support of the dean and the Administrator has been conducting meetings regularly. The list of programs is as follows:

Dr. Anup Kumar Shetty, Dr. Jayaprakash C.S. and Dr. Avinash spoke about ‘Laboratory Specimen Collection and BACTEC.’

The next program ‘Basics of Clinical Research’ conducted by the MEU was on 29.10.09. Dr. Prabha Adhikari, Professor of Medicine and Research Director, Kasturba Medical College, gave a lucid and interesting talk on the advantages and disadvantages of drug trials, and on investigator training and responsibilities.

In view of the increasing emphasis placed by accreditation boards and the MCI on research, the MEU planned a 2 day interactive seminar on Research Paper Writing. Dr. Leo Tauro, Additional Professor of Surgery, Dr. Ramesh Bhat Professor of Dermatology, Dr. Princy Louis Palatty Professor of Pharmacology, and Dr. M.S. Baliga, Scientist, Research and Development Division gave talks on Case Paper Writing, Original Article Writing, Review Article Writing and The Ethics of Research.

The Medical Education Unit wanted to give advice and help to doctors transitioning between phases in their education. We were fortunate to have as our resource person Dr. Brian Pereira, Consultant Nephrologist and President and CEO, AMAG Pharmaceuticals, USA who enlightened the students about residency program in the United States on December 30th 2009.

The Medical Education Unit ,Father Muller Medical College in collaboration with the Medical Education Cell , St. Johns Medical College Bangalore conducted a Faculty Development Program from 11th to 13th February 2010.

In March, Dr. Varadaraj Shenoy and Dr. Anup Shetty gave a lecture on Making PowerPoint presentations more effective.

In May ,the MEU organized a lecture on Leadership through Empathy by Mr. Charles Furtado and a talk by Mr. Donny Peter of livealive foundation.

Considering the increasing emphasis placed on research and publication in academic medicine, the MEU conducted a program in June on Training Undergraduates to Do Research. Dr. Animesh Jain, Dr. Princy Palatty, Dr. Amita Ray, Dr. Ramesh Bhat and Dr. Sanjeev Rai were the resource persons at this program.

In July, the MEU organized a talk on Effective PowerPoint Presentations by Dr. Amita Ray and Mr. Narasimhan.

In September 2010, the MEU conducted a 3 day faculty development program where Dr. Sanjeev Rai, Dr. Animesh Jain, Dr. Princy, Dr. Smitha Bhat, Mr. Narasimhan and Dr. Latha were resource personnel.

Dr. D K Srinivas, former dean JIPMER, Pondicherry delivered an inspiring well attended lecture on Integration of Medical Curriculum in October 2010.
