Introduction

Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology was established in 1999 and is located in the 2nd floor of B-block of the Medical College building. The department consists of an established museum, library and demonstration room with good teaching and learning materials. The department is involved in teaching and training the medical students, conducting research work, and assisting legal authorities by performing the medico-legal autopsies.

To train the medical students in medical ethics, legal responsibilities of a medical practitioner, proper handling of medicolegal cases and toxicology.

To do a quality medicolegal autopsies.

To give medicolegal consultation to the legal authorities.

To assist the clinicians in diagnosing unknown conditions by performing a clinical autopsy.
