The Counselling services at Father Muller Medical College Hospital put into practice the Institution’s motto, ‘To heal and comfort’, in their work with students at the Colleges of Nursing & Medicine and with patients at the various departments, viz., the Counselling Centre, Paediatric, Psychiatry, Oncology and ICTC (HIV/AIDS Counselling) departments and the Vailankanni/De-addiction Ward.
Although the Counselling Centre began functioning since 2009, some of the departments have been providing counselling services since the 1990’s. Keeping in mind the growing need for Counselling in today’s world, Counselling services are extended to students and patients and also to its staff as and when required.
The Counsellors are well-qualified post-graduates in the fields of Psychology and Medical & Psychiatric Social Work. At the hospital, counselling services are extended to in-patients as well as to out-patients according to doctors’ references. Students of the School & College of Nursing, as well as those at the Medical College, are provided with Counselling services according to their need and also on references from staff members.
