Father Muller Oncology Centre (FMOC) is a speciality unit of Father Muller Medical College and Hospital dedicated to cancer care and research is headed by Dr. M. S. Vidyasagar, Chief Radiation Oncologist.

The facility was inaugurated by Dr.A P J Abdul Kalam, former President of India, on 9th December 2007.

There are 3 modalities of cancer treatment currently available- Radiation, Surgery and Chemotherapy. In Radiation, FMOC has the latest Medical Linear Accelerator from Varian Medical Systems, Inc, USA, Image-guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) from BrainLAB, Germany, Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and high dose Brachytherapy for Gynaecological and Breast cancer. A team of Surgical, Radiation and Medical Oncologists decides the best treatment policy for the patient. The course of radiation is for 5-7 weeks and the cost of treatment at FMOC is the least in India in the private sector. With an initial investment of over Rs.10 crore, FMOC offers advanced treatment modalities available exclusively at this centre. FMOC also gives its patients access to other facilities like Open MRI, CT Scan and Laboratory Services.

The Medical Linear Accelerator generates high energy X-rays using high speed electrons. The machine has many features like Collimator Jaws, sophisticated Planning Software and Imaging Devices which help the Oncologist in locating the tumour, thereby sparing adjacent normal tissue. In current conventional radiotherapy, during irradiation, along with the tumour tissue even the healthy tissue is harmed. But since the beam in our linear accelerator is so precise and accurate, and since the direction of the beam can be manipulated, only the tumour is affected, leaving the healthy tissue intact.

Oncology Centre works in close proximity with speciality and super-speciality departments of the 1050 bedded Father Muller Medical College Hospital.
