GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATION- “AURUM 2009”

SCHOOL OF NURSING

In the 1950’s,with the increase in bed strength and the opening of new wards and specialities, the management of Father Muller Charitable Institutions felt the need to start a nursing school primarily to educate and prepare dedicated young women for humanitarian service in hospitals and communities.

The heroes specially chosen by God to play the pivotal role in this great task was Rev.Fr.Marian Fernandes and Sr.Maria Theresa Fernandes.Fr.Marian had struggled a good deal before he finally succeeded in getting the Government’s permission to start the School of Nursing.Dr.Nadkarni, the Director of Medical services at that time, processed the proposal and gave the permission in 1959.Sr.Maria Theresa, served as sister tutor and later she served as the Principal. She guided the destiny of the school for 23years and raised it to the status of a premier institute of nursing in South India. Thus by the cooperative effort of staff and management of Father Muller Hospital, the school of nursing started functioning with the first batch of 12 students on 16th July 1959.
