BASKET BALL RGUHS TOURNAMENT
Mangalore, 19th September 2009: He shoots, he scores, he wins…
The RGUHS Mysore zone inter collegiate basket ball tournament (men) 2009 was held on the 18th and 19th of September 2009 at 9.30 am. The event was held on the Father Muller basket ball court. The inaugural ceremony constituted of a prayer song led by batch 2007 after which Shastha of batch 2007, welcomed the audience. Rev. Fr Patrick Rodrigues presided over the function. The chief guest of the event was Mr. Ivan D’souza who is also an advocate and the vice president of D.K. Congress party. The tournament was officially declared open by the chief guest by shooting a basket.
The inaugural match which was held between the home team Father Muller Medical College and KVG, Sullya saw the home team as the winners, the score being 47/26
The next match for the day was played between Yenepoya Dental College and HIMS, where Yenepoya triumphed with a score of 29/16. The afternoon session included a match between K.S.Hegde Medical Academy and Mysore Medical College where K.S.Hegde emerged as the winners with a staggering 41 against a 15.
The next morning witnessed a match between Yenepoya Dental College and JSSMC, where JSSMC came out victorious with the scoreboard showing 61/51.The match between JSSMC and K.S. Hegde was conducted at 1130 am the same day which saw K.S.Hegde as the winners leading them straight to the finals. The following afternoon witnessed a crucial match between FMMC and Yenepoya which would decide which team would enter the finals. FMMC won the match and was scheduled to play the finals against K.S.Hegde .
A huge gathering was present to witness the finals, cheering with untiring enthusiasm for their respective teams. The teams entered the court with a throng of boos and yay’s. After an hour and a half of intense battle, FMMC emerged out as the champions with a score of 32 /28.
Thus the two day long basket ball tournament finally came to an end leaving behind a handful of sweet memories to cherish…..
